The Smarter than Smoking Creative Challenge, sponsored by Healthway, is AWESOME's year-round creative program celebrating the rich cultural and environmental diversity of regional Western Australia.

The 2007 Smarter than Smoking Creative Challenge 'Make Your Move' project will see AWESOME send 20 artists into 10 remote WA communities in the Goldfields, Mid-West and Gascoyne regions to explore creative expression with young people.

The program encourages young people to understand and appreciate their individual and collective identities by exploring and expressing the uniqueness of their respective communities.

'Make your Move' is a dance, sound and new media project.

Workshops in dance, sound and performance will explore the creative input and ideas from young participants. From there, a shared and common theme for each community or group will evolve and drive the creation of a performance work. Participants will shape their own work with the help of AWESOME artists, ensuring that it is truly their own 'voices' being expressed.

Through the workshops, a performance work will be created which expresses the participants' viewpoint and instills a sense of pride in their community and environment. This project offers young people a new form of expression and the opportunity to develop new skills and a greater confidence.

This work will be performed on the final day of the residency where the whole community is encouraged to come together to recognise and support the young people in a day of celebration.
