HOME GROUND — 2010

“HOME GROUND,” is a contemporary art project that invites young Western Australians from regional and remote areas to create artworks that explore their idea of ‘home’.

Lead artist and creator of “HOME GROUND” Louise Snook was inspired after a research trip to Mongolia where she lived in a nomadic felted yurt and wanted to offer the young people of Western Australia the opportunity to think about their own home, their community and different homes around the world.

“The young people and artists will embark on a creative adventure together, where they explore ideas of home, their dream home, the environment and how a home can reflect the people who live there,” said Ms Snook.

“We’ll be discovering the different kinds of homes that people live in throughout the world and creating contemporary artworks that offer experiences particular to each regional community and highlight the unique cultural and environmental landscape,” she said.

Louise will lead a team of twenty artists from around Australia including performers, filmmakers, new media artists, dancers, photographers and visual artists, so the creations of each community are expected to be wonderfully diverse.

The artworks created will then be showcased in an exhibition at the AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things held in the Perth CBD in November 2010.

Creative Challenge is proudly supported by Smarter than Smoking, BHP Billiton Nickel West (supporting the Goldfields and Warnbro residencies) and Woodside (supporting the Pilbara residencies).
